Hearing Beyond Words
Words are at best symbols in reference to the actuality of that which they are attempting to communicate.
Words are, at best, symbols in reference to the actuality of that which they are attempting to communicate. The nuance of each word carries with it a weight of meaning that can vary dramatically depending on context, tone, and the listener's own experiences. In this blog entry titled "Hearing Beyond Words," I am calling attention to the much larger body of contextual information that exists beyond the common definitions of the words being shared. This painting suggests a form of listening that embraces a much deeper well of information to further contextualize the communication that the words are attempting to convey. This deeper listening is not merely about the words being spoken, but also about the emotions, the intentions, and the unspoken thoughts that accompany them, creating a complex tapestry of understanding that we, as humans, can weave together through our interactions.
